I just sent this in an email to a friend, but I kinda need to shout it to the internets.

I'm terribly behind on reading McShep Match (and terribly afraid it's the last real set of SGA fic I'll be reading at the same time). I have to rec this story, if there's even a chance someone happening upon my LJ hasn't read it, from September 10th, Down to Earth. It's called "Like Gravity (It Doesn't Matter If You Believe In It)" and is utterly gorgeous and heartbreaking and the LANGUAGE is just perfect and lovely.
This excerpt literally stopped me in my tracks. I read it maybe three or four times before I even remembered there was more story, and the more is definitely worth reading as well:

*Hearts* xkcd's hidden text today. (Ok, and the non-hidden text too.)
And while I'm here, making my quarterly post, cliche bingo card!

I'm super excited about the fact that I signed up for this. I have a half-sketched out idea for a crossover, and I really want to do fairytales and folklore, but we'll see. If I write one good fic, I'll be happy, but writing five would be awesome, so that's my goal.
I'm even more excited about reading other peoples stories, honestly. And McShepMatch!!! (I think I'm going to love the Peace stories.) And SGA Big Bang! (Oh, SGA, I want your summer writing events to continue forever and ever. Alas!)
Working Out
Written for
sheafrotherdon 's someecard minifest.

SGA, McKay/Sheppard
Word count: ~1900.
Notes: No betas, and mostly written up at the last minute so if there are mistakes, please point 'em out. This was mostly a self-indulgent exercise in thinking about Rodney's arms.
( This time, instead of being crammed into a small niche in the bottom of an Ancient console, Rodney was saving the lives of everyone on planet “oh-hey-the-shield-quit-working-just-in-time-for-the-Wraith-to-show-up” by standing on a ladder set up on a platform and reaching up into the shield controls. Sheppard was on the other side of the ladder, holding it steady, and Ronon and Teyla were standing guard against Wraith and stupid shield-breaking-Wraith-worshippers. Rodney was multitasking between the life saving and cursing the Ancients and their three-feet too-short platforms and possibly freakishly long arms. )

People in cars are honking as they drive past one another, and occasionally a man or a woman will yell out, "Obama!!" Somewhere, someone is setting off fireworks.
I can't stop smiling, though I can hardly believe it's true.
Yes, we can.

Big Bang just went live, and I am overwhelmed completely. The site itself is so beautiful, I want to just explore it!
*deep breathes*
I feel like I need to go take a nap and then somehow make a schedule that will tell me what to read and how much in order to preserve my sanity/eyesight!

I cannot resist talking about books! I will say though, this is a weird "top 100" even if it is for one publisher.
In other fannish news, the Doctor Who Season 2 finale broke my heart. Why was I rushing towards it??? I plan to knit doomsday gauntlets to ease my pain.

FOOTLOOSE! Seriously, the EXTENDED scene of Kevin Bacon's Ren teaching his buddy Willard how to dance is possibly one of the best things I've seen lately. It's SO SO like the "Baby learns to dance" in Dirty Dancing, it'd be eerie if it wasn't so amazingly fantastic.
And really, the fact that the scene before is naked boys in a locker room planning a dance and being all "ah shucks" about their public speaking skills sets the stage.
Where is this SGA AU??
The scene in question.

Title: Unexpected in Common Hours
Pairings: Teyla, touch of John/Rodney, Ronon/Keller
Rating: PG (if that)
Words: ~1300
Notes: Written for 14 Valentines but, due to my own oversight, not posted there. Thanks to Thoreau for the title, and Norman Anderson's Ferris Wheels: An Illustrated History for the italicized portions of the text. (They are bits and pieces of a letter describing George Ferris, "inventor" of the Ferris wheel.)

I was so amused after reading this headline in the Chicago Tribune.
The article itself isn't that funny (ok, actually, it might be), but if you change the "r" to an "n", you may have the same reaction I had when I first read it: shock, confusion, guilty excitement.

Oh, pretty pretty yarn. I buy you when I really need to be making more reasonable purchases. But the new yarn store I visited has lots and lots of pretty yarn and cool needles and bags and everything else.
Also, I continually find this amusing: I arranged a bunch of books on a big shelf, and couldn't resist putting my SGA DVDs next to War and Peace. Makes me giggle a bit every time I glance over and see them all there.

On the off chance that anyone reading this doesn't already know...

The crazy and amazing
( ...and then some )
I just watched SGA 3.10, the Return Part I, and...
Anyways. I'll say no more about it. Maybe I will finally start friending people in hopes of finding out more about this amazing amazing thing. Sometimes, I convince myself that SGA, while awesome, is not that that great, and it's really fandom that I love. But then I watch an episode like 3.10, and it's all so so good and I'm a little more in love with the world than I was before.

So, if you have an opinion about spending the money or realize you'll be in a library at some point this summer anyways so you might as well distribute some bookmarks, post post post.

Series of events:
1. Watch Veronica Mars.
2. Love Veronica Mars.
3. Realize with horror that somehow Veronica Mars doesn't get high Neilsen ratings.
4. Do something to change it.
